Software Tools Workshop

The Software
Engineering Group

Computational Science & Engineering
CLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

The next SESP Fortran Software Tools Workshop will be:
Tuesday 22nd to Wednesday 23rd January 2008 Manchester Metropolitan University
Maths & Computing Dept.

Fortran is still the major implementation language for many large computational science applications and with the advent of the Fortran 2003 standard it will be so for many years to come. In many areas the lifetime of major applications software is growing so maintenance and ease of development are significant issues. Producing good quality software and documentation are two important factors in reducing development and maintenance time.

The goal of this workshop is to introduce the participants to a selection of software tools for applications developers that if used on a regular basis will maintain an improvement in the quality of the Fortran 95 software they are developing. The workshop will cover quality assurance, software transformation and some elements of testing and will allow hands-on experience of some of these tools.

Participants will be encouraged to bring a selection of their own software to complement the test examples.

Contact David Worth (d.j.worth@rl.ac.uk) or Chris Greenough (c.greenough@rl.ac.uk) if wish to participate.
